" I implore you, my child; observe heaven and earth, consider all that is in them, and acknowledge that God made them out of nothing (ex nihilo), and that mankind comes into being in the same way..." 2 Maccabees 7:28

In The Beginning...there was a lump.

For those of you not big into the whole "religion" thing, I apologize for the old testament feel to my blog title, my first post, etc. But you know what they say; if you find a metaphor that works, then you work it into the ground! (Actually I don't think anyone ever said anything so idiotic as that...)

This has been a very interesting year in my life, the most interesting yet. It started with a pilgrimage in December to Bosnia (where a priest in confession said some very profound things to me), then a near plane crash coming home, followed by a diagnosis of breast cancer a few weeks after my 33rd birthday. Tuesday was my last day at work for the rest of the year, Friday will be surgery followed soon after by chemotherapy and who knows what next?

My friend Christina said something the other day that is still turning in my mind. She said she was thinking about why these things happen- why do people get sick? And the answer she gave to her own question was so that we can love each other.

More to come later on the near plane crash, the diagnosis, the confession, my friends and coworkers, my haircut... lots still to tell you.
Love Faith

Faith?!!! I had no idea all this was happening. My mom is a breast cancer survivor. If you need anyone to talk to, she'd be the one. She has lots of advice and lots of tips and lots of wisdom she'd love to share with you, if you need it.

You can call or email me anytime, I'm serious.

Your friend for life,
Jeff

I had the joy of meeting you, Faith, on Pilgrimage to Medjugorje.
And I had a joyful couple of hours in Trastevere last week with your sister Hope.
Thank you for your Faith. There are great celebrations of the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation in Medjugorje, and it takes 2 together with Jesus to make the celebration great. Well done, All the bese, St Faith Gillis. Thank you for all that you do and all that you are,
In the love of Jesus, Fr Wally Beale.

Hi Faith,
We have been thinking of you and keep you in our prayers. I saw my friend's mother having chemo. She kept a prayer bracelet with names of those who are praying for her. It seemed to help her a lot. Someone else I know is recovering from breast cancer and she posts a blog at caringbridge.org. It's helped her and others a lot. So I think your blog is a good idea. I'm glad you are sharing this with us.
God bless,
Ray Pellegrini

Faith:
Although you have to walk this path by yourself, you are not walking alone. Our Lord and all those around you walk with you too. Stay strong in phase one on the path to "breast cancer survivor."

Faith,

Any Biblical scholar worth his sand will tell you that "in the beginning was the WORD" loosely translated, LOGOS, not LUMP. I don't know where you get your theology... Steubenville?

Big day tomorrow. Wish I could be there. By the way, I made you some cookies. Pick up only, sorry, can't deliver.

Love ya!
